Arriving back cottage I don\u2019t fail to see Cloud hidden in the trees. \u201cI\u2019d invite him inside, but I don\u2019t want him eating Snow,\u201d I say standing outside and Nicholas nods his head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnce he is used to us and trained he will know not to touch Snow but for now it is for the best.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ll bring you some food out when it\u2019s done,\u201d I call to him and hear a bark echo through the trees as though answering me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before we can open the door Conrad opens it. His eyes widen seeing our score and he takes the basket from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh, wow. Where you get all that?\u201d Vincent asks following us but not taking anything from his brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conrad definitely seems like the kinder of the two so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWoods,\u201d I answer as we put that stuff in the kitchen. Before the older brothers have a chance to say anything, I speak again. \u201cI know I shouldn\u2019t eat magical food all the time but can I use magic to prepare the boar or will it\u2026? I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicholas smiles and answers. \u201cYou can prepare and cook food with magic. It\u2019s just if you magic food out of nothing it lacks nutritions the food should have. You will get energy from the food, but not much else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut if I magically prepare food I do have, it will have nutritions?\u201d I guess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cExactly,\u201d He leans down steals a quick kiss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOkay. Then this is the plan, thing one, you set the table,\u201d I indicate to Vincent. \u201cThing two, you keep Snow out of the kitchen or he might accidentally get made into dinner,\u201d I order Conrad who agrees without argument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd you can tidy us up whilst I think of a fantastic spell,\u201d I tell Nicholas. His older brothers exit the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey did as told,\u201d I say more than a little surprised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI know. That\u2019s a first, for Vincent at least. Caring for Snow is a given for Conrad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I nod in understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDo you know what you are cooking?\u201d I nod again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlright, create a real spell, that can be you task for today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst I am thinking of the right words he chants his own spell cleaning all the dirt and grim from us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCould you move the fruit away.\u201d I’m not including them in my spell, but I am still learning so I might mess up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He does as asked. \u201cAny preferences, Nick?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, my love.\u201d I can\u2019t help but smile. \u201cYour brothers aren\u2019t veggies, right?\u201d I probably should have asked before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He chuckles and shakes his head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRoasted boar, kind of pig, with roasted veg all on a big dish!\u201d I say excited and full of meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicholas shakes his head and chuckles, \u201cThat isn\u2019t a spell.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But a huge dish appears on the sideboard now with the cooked boar and roasted vegetables around him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut it worked.\u201d Nicholas goes to get his brothers and with their help they carry the dish to the table. \u201cWe need one more plate,\u201d I say only seeing four. They look confused until I start pulling snails and worms out of my pockets and putting them on the plate in front of me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snow is straight over and Conrad looks pleased. \u201cThank you, Katrina. You didn\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I shake my head. \u201cIt\u2019s to make up for the belly ache my butterflies gave him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s pretty gross,\u201d Vincent finds it hilarious for some reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where as Nicholas just chuckles to himself. \u201cYou are the only girl I know who would ever keep them in her pockets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pickes me up and carries me into the kitchen to wash my hands and magic my clothes clean once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we return another place is set out, Snow is happily eating and Vincent is craving the hog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is way too much here for just us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI know. I\u2019ve already promised the left overs to Cloud.\u201d I don\u2019t know how, but I know he is still in the trees outside. At least between him and Nicholas it explains why I always felt like I was being watched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCloud?\u201d Conrad asks curiously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cKatrina\u2019s got a familiar but didn\u2019t realise,\u201d Nicholas answers for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUnderstandable. She\u2019s new to this all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat is it?\u201d Conrad asks interested. \u201cI\u2019m guessing your familiar is how you got this and into the woods without harm. So big?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHa, you\u2019re smart. Yes, but he\u2019s a real sweetheart.\u201d I’m still not sure how to address him as one or plural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a white dog.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInteresting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With our plates full and drinks poured (magic made drink, but that doesn\u2019t matter) we sit down to dinner. I am besides Nicholas, his brothers on the other side of the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTell us how you won our brother over? He was never the one we suspected to find our wife.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, I only recently learned about the Forster brothers sharing. So\u2026\u201d I say unsure what to say about that. \u201cAs for Nick\u2026 When I first saw him I thought he was the most beautiful man I had ever seen, then he opened his mouth and I wanted to kick him in the nuts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI pursued her,\u201d Nicholas confesses, clearly his brothers weren\u2019t expecting that. \u201cIt was love at first sight. I knew straight away we\u2019d marry. The moment I saw her exit the car I knew she was mine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut you always say how frustrating she is, that she never listens and can\u2019t do spells.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe can\u2019t and she is. She is so perfect.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vincent looks amused, Conrad doesn\u2019t look any less confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe sent me love letters but didn\u2019t tell me it was him. I thought he hated me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have already consummated our love,\u201d Nicholas says before his brothers said anything. \u201cI know we are meant to wait to decide together, but I love her. I don\u2019t want anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe oldest is meant to go first, in age order.\u201d I stare at Vincent and then to Conrad who nods his head. It\u2019s as though it\u2019s completely normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe is very appealing to us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m a little annoyed how they speak about me as though I\u2019m not there. But I bite my tongue and give them a chance. Throughout dinner we\u2026 Or should I say the brothers speak mainly about me. With Nicholas excitedly telling them all about me. But surprisingly, never mentioning my magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSurely you want a high level wife?\u201d I ask them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll the men in our family are level nine,\u201d Vincent brags. Nine is basically the highest since level tens are almost unheard of. \u201cBut our mother is a level three and our fathers mother had no magic abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMagic doesn\u2019t come into a Forster marriage. We only marry for love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut you don\u2019t love me, so I will only marry Nick.\u201d I probably sound a little too happy if the frown Conrad gave me is anything to go by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe care for you, about you,\u201d He argues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou wouldn\u2019t be wearing the ring if we didn\u2019t feel as our brother does.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut you don\u2019t know me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe know enough. It\u2019s like Nicholas said, love at first sight.\u201d I don\u2019t believe them but don\u2019t argue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We eat until we are full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDo you want to invite Cloud inside?\u201d I shake my head. \u201cLet\u2019s keep him outside until we know he can be trusted with Snow.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They all agree and instead they carry the large platter to the garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Snow locked in the cottage, we are all in the garden and they are encouraging me to call Cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking a few steps away from them, I call him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCloud, come here, cutie.\u201d I can see his tail wagging in some bushes before he leaps out of them and rushes at me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hear the brothers gasp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is Cloud,\u201d I introduce him to the others. They all look confused, maybe a little scared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be scared. He\u2019s a good boy.\u201d I prove to them but hugging the dog who is happily dancing around me and nuzzling my hands with his heads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cK.. Katrina, that\u2019s not a dog,\u201d Vincent says sounding a little scared still.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt isn\u2019t?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRemember I taught you about Cerberus?\u201d Nicholas asks taking a step closer to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I nod. \u201cThe hell hound, three headed guard dog of hades. Large, protective and mean. But you said they were black. Cloud is white and he isn\u2019t mean.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicholas is besides me now and touching the dog\u2019s heads. \u201cI know, but this is a Cerberus. He is kind because he knows you trust us and we wish you no harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His older brothers are a little more nervous to approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I take some meat from the boar and hold it out to one of the heads. He accepts it, careful not to catch me fingers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t advise you guys doing that, but it clearly loves her. He is her familiar. He can be trusted,\u201d Nicholas tells his brothers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t understand. Cerberus are meant to be evil creatures. They can\u2019t be controlled. They are one of the reasons no one can go into the woods.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe a high level, she is bound to have a unique familiar.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m a high level?\u201d I ask honestly surprised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHigh level? No offence, Katrina, because you know we love you. But you said she can\u2019t do spells,\u201d Vincent says the last part to his younger brother. But all I hear is love. I believe him. But I don\u2019t understand why or how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWill you make us tea and cakes, Katrina?\u201d He wants me to do magic. I\u2019m not sure why but do as told.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEat your dinner.\u201d I give Cloud a push in the direction of the platter and they quickly starts chowing down, giving me some much needed space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing a garden bench and table I walk over, \u201cCake, cake, cake, cake and tea.\u201d Plates of cakes and a pot of tea with cups appear out of nowhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat? How?\u201d Conrad asks confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat wasn\u2019t a spell and she didn\u2019t even use a wand or staff,\u201d Vincent says equally confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWand? I thought they were optional?\u201d I ask now confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo, my love. People use them to focus their magic. But you don\u2019t need help focusing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s good, right?\u201d He smiles and steals another kiss. \u201cVery good. I had thought you were just very centred. Principal Harington knew I was interested in her but warned me off. Told me not to pursue you unless it was real. I didn\u2019t understand then. But he was worried you\u2019ll be used for your power.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I listened confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t find out what level you are until recently. The principal told me to teach you basics. I knew weren\u2019t a level six, but I honestly didn\u2019t care. I originally planned to consummate our love just before graduation but when I saw you with Luke I got jealous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou know Luke\u2019s homosexual, right?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, but you are too beautiful. I didn\u2019t want to lose you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can\u2019t help but smile. \u201cBut what level am I?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m not meant to tell you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a level nine, like us, right?\u201d Vincent guesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI really can\u2019t say. But yes, she is a high level. Since I am a high level too they wanted me to teach her exclusively. As you know, minus the principal and some of the teachers, I am the only level nine in the school. She needed the attention the teachers can\u2019t give her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His brothers are convinced I am a nine, I, myself, am more leaning to eight since I struggle with Nicholas\u2019s spells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe can help teach her.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, she would gain a lot with the three of us teaching her together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicholas doesn\u2019t look convinced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m nine, I can\u2019t even do a protection spell.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicholas looks amused remembering my earlier attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter what level you are, we still want to be with you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I just nod not sure what I want or feel about them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rest of the day moves fast. No, I don\u2019t do anything with Vincent and Conrad apart from hug them. Im not ready for anything else. But I did end up sharing a bed at the cottage with Nicholas again. Yes, we had sex, but I tried to keep it down so his brothers wouldn\u2019t hear. But the dumb owl somehow got in the room again and well\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThank you for giving my brothers a chance. They have really taken with you,\u201d Nicholas had said before we went to sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I still don\u2019t understand it. But he explained it was the same for all Forster men. One would fall in love at first sight with a woman – not that unusual. Then his brother\/brothers would meet her and the same would happen. Before the pact to share a wife was made the brothers would end up in dangerous magical fights over the woman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it ended up in the death of one of the brothers, that was when the pact was made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were since brought up to share, but it didn\u2019t mean they couldn\u2019t feel jealous sometimes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing them in a new light, the next morning I decided to try to be kinder, less awkward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
