Chapter 4
“I am,” Was all I could say before he was pulling me to his lap and held me tight, burying his neck in my neck.
“I’m sorry,” It was muffled but I understood. “I didn’t…” I felt my shoulder getting neck.
“Don’t leave me again. I love you so much. I promise I would never willingly cheat on you.”
I was confused by that comment but say nothing.
“I can’t function without you. I need you. My parents tried to help, but they can’t. I just need you, please, baby…”
“I forgive you, Chris. I’m sorry. I love you, I do…”
He looked up still clinging to me. “You do? You are going to stay?” His eyes held so much hope.
I nod, “But…” I quickly add making him look worried again.
“I need to know… Why? How long? Since I’ve been gone have you…”
He cut me off, “Only that once. But I swear, I really did think it was you…” I look at him sceptically. “Just let me explain, please?” He begged.
“That day I came home early, I wanted to surprise you when I got home. I am not sure if it was just by chance or she had planned it, but when I got home, Chelsey was on our doorstep. I reluctantly let her in. As you know, she and I have never got on well… There is a reason… Since even before we started dating, she would come on to me. After we got together it happened several times too.” I was shocked, but I shouldn’t have been. I knew she was a whore.
“Before you ask, no, I never accepted. I have never been interested in her. Only ever you,” He told me brushing the back of his hand down my cheek. “That day you came home, she came into me again. As normal, I rejected her… I never told you before because I knew despite everything, you loved her and I didn’t want to ruin that.” He sounded truthful.
But if that happened how did they end up in bed?
“I offered her a drink, knowing you’d be home soon. Twenty minutes later you came and…” I nodded still confused.
“But when you left I got dressed and threw her out. I knew something wasn’t right… I went to the hospital, they called the police…” I was worried now.
“When I made her and myself a drink I went to the toilet. I came back, drank it and felt wuzzy. I closed my eyes for a few seconds when I reopened them, everything was blurry. But instead of Chelsey was a dark haired woman. She said she was you…” A few tears escape both of us. “I told the doctor all my symptoms. Blurred vision, confusion and slight numbness, drowsy. I had trouble remember bits…” This wasn’t sounding good. “The doctor rang the police before doing some tests. They got the results back. I told the police everything that happened… With thinking, she was you and…” He looked at me sorry. “I left the hospital later and spent all night calling and looking for you. I found out the next morning I had been drugged with Ketamine.” My eyes widen.
“Date rape drug?” I whispered. He nodded, “They arrested Chelsey and found a small bag which contained a tiny amount of the drug. She planned on forcing me to sleep with her by making me think it was you. She had a wig, but at some point when in bed she removed it and hid it under the pillow. They found it in her bag too. She wanted us to split up. She couldn’t have me, so neither could you… That’s what she told the police…” The worst part if all this is that my boyfriend was basically raped and I didn’t believe him.
I broke down and began crying harder. “I’m sorry, Kim. Please… Don’t be angry at me…”
What?
I looked back at him, he was still looking at me with that sad look, like it was all his fault.
“You shouldn’t be the one saying sorry, I should…” I cupped his cheek and pressed my lips to his. Our salty tears mingled around our lips. “I’m sorry, Chris. I should have stayed and listened… I should have been here for you,” I spoke against his lips.
“You shouldn’t be sorry either. You thought I had…? But I wouldn’t… Ever. I love you.” He stood me up and kneeled down on his knee in front of me. “Kim, I know it is probably too soon after the incident, but will you…” He pulled out the ring box I saw that day.
“It isn’t too soon,” I got him off. “I’d love to marry you.” He jumped up almost knocking me over. Dropping the box on the coffee table in the process. “Thank you, thank you. I’ll do my best to make every day good for you.”
He held me, his body tight against mine. “You have lost weight,” I gave him a scolding look. “I was too depressed to eat,” He said honestly, but then pulling back slightly his eyes travelled down to my midriff. I had put on more than an inch in the last month. “We are really having babies?” His eyes shone looking at my tiny bump. “Yes. I am fifteen weeks. I am meant to have a scan tomorrow… Do you want to come?”
He gave me a watery smile, “Yes, please.” He sat me on the couch and laid me down, moving behind me and hugging me.
But quickly got up and grabbed something before returning to me. “Will you wear this?” He held out the ring. I smile and held out my hand. “I said I’d marry you and I meant it.” He slipped it on my finger and I swear he grinned so wide I think he might break.
“I really love you so much.” He laid down again with me and hugged me, placing hand on my stomach. I lifted the shirt up slightly, telling him it’s okay to touch my bare skin.
Being with him, how he was acting now it is almost how we were before we first got together.
“Where were you? I called you and everyone… Were you with David? He was ignoring my calls.”
“My phone died, I didn’t want to speak to you. I was heartbroken.” He mumbled sorry and nuzzled my neck.
“You shouldn’t be. It is my sick bitch sister’s fault. She basically raped you…” I rubbed his hand which was on my stomach and enjoyed feeling him kiss my neck.
“I should have been here to comfort you.”
“You are here now and you’ll be here for the court hearing… Right?”
“I promise.” I turn my head and kiss him. “I am done with Chelsey.”
“So tell me, how did you end up staying with David?”
I told him how he found me and invited me to stay and everything. But before long my exhausted fiancé had fallen asleep holding my stomach. Unlike before though, he was no longer sobbing, he was smiling.
