Chapter 3

Arriving at the car, I took out the keys from my pocket and opened the trunk.
There was little space left, so I crush a couple bags of clothes in then forced it closed.

The stuff that didn’t fit I put into the back seat.

I was leaning into the car and push the things in when I felt a pair of arms snaked around my waist.
I froze; I tried to speak back my mouth wasn’t working.

“Hey love, I miss you,” I didn’t even have to turn around I knew that voice from anywhere.

That voice belonged to the now man who was always looking out for me when we were little and when my boyfriends weren’t there to protect me.

The man who took me to see twilight because no one else would go with me, and he didn’t think it was safe for a girl to go out by herself.

Me, Nate and Dexter had been friends since forever.
Nate and Dexter were like brothers.

My parents and Dexter’s worked together and when they both got pregnant became friends.

We were brought up side by side, and both met and became friends with Nate in our first school.

When we were ten Dexter and his family moved away for some reason I don’t know.

But returned when Dexter was sixteen.
By this time, me and Nate had become close and had started dating.
We were both over the moon to see our old friend return, but as he got old, he seemed to become more and more strange and distant.

By the time we got to college he had more or less stopped talking to me.
But the two boys remained close as ever.
Whenever I tried to bring the topic up with Nate, he would just tell me that Dexter was a grown up now and didn’t like hanging out and chatting with girls who he wasn’t banging.
That pissed me off.

Maybe I should have realized a long time ago that me and Nate wasn’t meant to be.
I think I used to wear rose tinted glasses a lot and not pay attention to the crap he used to say and do.
But now I think back I see it.

Back to the arms around my waist.

After a minute, I finally managed to chock out “W..w..what..arre y..you doing heere?”

I was still too scared to move, I felt wetness on my face and realized I was crying.

The arms let me go and turned me around.

Standing in front of me was a man who had haunted my dreams the last week.

I tried to look away, but he put his fingers on my cheek and turned me back to look at him.

“I came to see you love,” Dexter said with a sadness in his eyes.

“I have been watching and waiting around campus for you all week,” I shouldn’t have been shocked by this but I was.

‘Maybe he wants to kill me to shut me up so I won’t tell anyone,’ I thought and many other crazy ideas.

“Wwhy?” I asked quietly.

Dexter looked at me sadly and dropped his arms down to his side’s.

“I wanted to say sorry,”

‘WTF? Sorry,’ I thought unsure what he expected from me.

“Sorry? what do you mean ‘SORRY’?” I almost shouted finding my voice.

“IS THAT MEANT TO MAKE EVERYTHING F*CKING BETTER?” I felt as tho I was about to explode.

“I know it doesn’t make it better, but I was drunk and …” before he could stay anything else Beth came out of the building with a small box with the last of her things.

When she saw me in tears and Dexter in front of me, she dropped her box and run over to me.

Red-faced and ready to kill she stepped in front of me and pushed me behind her like a protective mother.

“WHAT THE HELL YOU DOING HERE? YOUR THE DICK NATE GOT TO DO HIS DIRTY WORK AREN’T YOU. DON’T YOU THINK YOU’VE DONE ENOUGH DAMAGE OR DOES YOUR MASTER SENT YOU OUT TO DO MORE?! WHY DON’T YOU GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE AND BACK TO YOU MASTER YOU B!TCH BEFORE I CALL THE COPS ON YOU BOTH,” Beth yelled in his face.

I think he must have got the message because he soon walked away.

But only a few yards before stopping and watching me as Beth grabbed her box and returned to the car and we drove away back home.

I could have sworn I saw sorrow and guilt in his face as we left.
